MY WEDDING DAY
MY WEDDING DAY
March 7, 2014 No CommentsThe day was 29th April, 2012. Early in the morning, I woke up and everything seemed same. But there was something new budding in my heart. A feeling of some sort, as if something I never imagined was going to happen. Something was going to happen but I had planned for it well for months now. But I could not shake my new feeling which was starting to make me nervous. Of course, it was my wedding that day but I thought I should not be feeling so nervous.
We had to reach the church by 10 am in the morning. My brother had already gone to the church. My mother and sister were getting ready in their best dress. Especially my sister was really excited to have me married as except my mother other all members of the family were male. My mother even called a beautician to make an updo in her hair and put on some heavy make-up. Luckily they finished their touch up in time and we reached the church by quarter to ten.
I looked around and there was no any sign of the bride. I guessed that she must be getting ready somewhere. When I entered the hall, there were already about 50 people seated and watching me with their sly smile and glaring eyes as if I was about to be sacrificed or something.
The pastor called me and told me to sit down in the place in front of the hall. After that begun a long wait for the bride. I meanwhile was furiously trying to contact my friends as not even one of them were inside the hall. Whoever I contacted were just telling me that they will be coming soon. As the time passed. I began to grow more impatient and nervous. And my pastor was constantly reminding me to keep calm and just feel special at that moment.
Finally. There was the arrival of the bride with her face covered in a veil and walking towards me so slowly as if there were land mines kept on the way. I and my soon to be wife were seated facing each other. Though I could not see her face as she was just looking down and nowhere else.
As the ritual goes, before starting the ceremony my pastor asked if there were any objections to the wedding. I gave a quick glance at everybody at that time. Luckily everybody there were satisfied with the wedding. Then oaths were taken and promises made which I don’t actually remember now. But as people say it’s the love that you do to the other person that really matters and not merely the words you speak. I would go on but this is just the tip of my starting of marital life. There are so many ups and downs I have seen although it has been only 2 years. But surely I will never forget the day that started it all.
